05. How to use village overview, village center and map?


This is the village overview. It is where the resource tiles are located; you can expand (upgrade) them in order to increase production. Right now, you have absolutely no upgraded resource tiles; this means, they are producing the very core minimum, which you will need to increase later on as your village grows. Before we begin, let’s take some time to learn more information about the overview and its resources.

Box 1: This is the list of the resources you currently have stored in your village (the number shown on the left), and the total amount your storage can hold (the number shown on the right). You can’t have more than the amount you can hold, and it is not recommended that you allow your resources to fill up, because that would cause an overflow or a waste of resources. The small bars beneath the numbers will be green in color if you are safe from overflowing, but will become red once your resources begin getting wasted. All the way to the right, there is a small image of wheat with a red cross over it. That is your crop consumption. Crop consumption is the total amount of crop consumed by your villagers and troops; the amount of crop consumed is the number shown to the left. The total production of crop in your village (or the maximal amount of troops and villagers you can feed without having to upgrade crop production) is shown on the right. Troops and population eat crop; that means that if you’re producing 12 wheat per hour, it will only show you that you are making 10 wheat per hour, because 2 of the wheat is being consumed as food. Currently, you don’t have an army, so you’ll have to worry about troops and their crop consumption later. The number next to the 2 is the maximum amount of people your tiny village can feed, and it will stay that small until you increase it by upgrading your crop fields.

Box 2: This is the main overview of all of your resource tiles. As your village grows, you will need to upgrade these tiles, to increase production. Right now, it is pretty much empty and will remain empty until you start building up. Remember; these resource tiles are a way for you to build up a strong economy. No village can function without them. In Travian, there are four resources to be produced: crop (also called wheat), lumber, iron, and clay. All four are important, but crop is something you should always have plenty of, since you will need more of it the more people and soldiers you have in your village. Also, some resources are more valuable to certain tribes. Gauls, for instance, need a lot of clay. Romans need a lot of iron, and Teutons require an abundance of wood.

Box 3: This shows the amount of resources your village currently produces in an hour. As you build and upgrade your resource tiles, your production will increase.

Box 4: This shows the units you currently have in your village. Since you just started and you haven't even built a rally point yet, there are none in your village.


This is the village center page, where you can construct new buildings and order troops to be researched and trained. You can see that one building is already up; that is your main building. The main building is one of the most important buildings you have, since it is a required to build almost every other building. As you can see, there are little circles in your village; these are called building lots and these represent the places where you can build new structures, but there are also a few less visible places where you can construct a couple of special buildings:

1. (Red): Mostly found just around the river or around the rim, there is a place where you can build a wall to protect your city. Every tribe has a different type of wall, with different ways of protecting your village.

2. (Orange): This is where you can build your rally point. It is used to direct your units and also to instruct your catapults on what to target. The higher the level of your rally point the better your catapults are at hitting what you want them to. The rally point is also needed to build a barracks and some other buildings, so without one constructed in your village, you can’t train any soldiers.


This is the main map used for the entire game. In the centre of the map, surrounded by a yellow square, is your village. The other villages, which are surrounded by orange squares, are your neighbours villages. Blue squares are villages in your alliance, green squares are alliances that are allied with your alliance, and light green squares are NAPs. If you scroll over a village, like I have over my own, you can see details about that village, like the name of the player, the population of the village, and the Alliance of the village. If you click that village, it would show you more detail about the village, and give you options such as raid the village or send merchants to it.

The red circle with the number 1 with the forest is called an unoccupied oasis. If you were to click on that small square, you would see information about it, such as how many wild animal were there and even have the option to raid the unoccupied oasis for resources. If you gain a Hero's Mansion in the future, then level the Mansion to level 10, you could claim that oasis for yourself and gain a bonus from it, but you might not be ready for that until after you have been in the game for at least a week.

The red circle with the number 2 contains fields for numbers (coordinates) that can be used like a short cut to scroll the map. If you put random numbers in, like -29 and -82, you would find yourself at a random place on the map as described by them, almost like squares in a giant grid.
